Des is introduced to us as someone who has “just finished a high school program at sea for aspiring marine biologists where he studied a sea slug colony,” a sentence that is immediately meant to evoke stereotypical visuals of the nerdy brown boy in every white sitcom ever. When Anirudh Pisharody, who plays Des (short for Nirdesh) in Netflix’s Never Have I Ever season 3, makes a dramatic slow-motion entry in episode 4, fans of the show will have another name to add to the Ben/Paxton rivalry.
